How do I book an appointment?
Do you offer video or telephone sessions?
We are a virtual psychology clinic and provide online therapy using PHIPA-compliant, secure and encrypted online video software that you can access on your computer, tablet or phone. We also provide services by phone. This allows for our clients to avoid a timely commute and other barriers associated with commuting to an appointment.
Why choose online therapy?
There are many advantages connecting with a therapist online – both pragmatic and emotional. For many of us, taking the leap and starting therapy may be a little daunting.
You might feel more comfortable having a video call with your therapist while your dog is nuzzled up by your feet. Or perhaps there aren’t enough hours in the day to dash to your therapist’s office between your work and personal life schedule.
With advantages including accessibility, cost, time, privacy – it is unsurprising that more and more of us are turning to the web for support. And you don’t even need to be too digital-savvy to get started.
What can I expect from therapy?
Therapy typically begins as a process of exploration. This will help me get to know you and understand the issue or issues that you are looking to address. We will be establishing rapport and building a strong therapeutic relationship so you can feel safe and comfortable when revealing intimate thoughts, feelings and behaviours to me.
You will likely also gain a deeper understanding of yourself and the concerns that brought you into therapy. This understanding will help you draw some connections and reveal patterns that you may not have seen before, and these new insights will likely lead you to identify some changes you wish to make.
Some people feel ready to go out and work on making these changes on their own, while others like to remain in the supportive space provided by the therapeutic relationship while making these changes.
What is your cancellation policy?
Your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or a no show does not provide sufficient time for your therapist to fill your time slot for another client.
If a cancellation occurs with less than 24 hours’ notice, this is considered a late cancellation and we will charge the full fee of the appointment. This payment is due on the same day of the scheduled appointment.
If the session is not cancelled but you do not show, this is considered a no show appointment and we will charge the full session fee in this case, as well. This payment is due on the same day of the scheduled appointment.
Please note that we do send appointment reminders by e-mail and/or text. However, this is simply a courtesy as technology has its flaws; therefore, clients are still expected to keep track of their own appointments.
What is a Registered Psychotherapist?
A Registered Psychotherapist is a regulated practitioner in psychotherapy in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
In Ontario, therapists who are registered with the CRPO, use the title or designation of Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) or Registered Psychotherapist and have the abbreviation RP or RP (Qualifying) after their name.
The CRPO is the legal governing and regulating body for the practice of psychotherapy in Ontario. It establishes and maintains standards of practice; continued competence; quality and professional reliability.
Is my health information secure and protected?
We recognize the importance of collecting, using, and disclosing personal information responsibly and only to the extent necessary in order to provide you with the services that you have consented to receive.
We operate in accordance with the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA), which is the primary legislation that governs the handling of personal information by all regulated health professionals within the province of Ontario.
Will my insurance cover Psychotherapy services?
Most private health insurance plans provide varying degrees of coverage. If your private health insurance plan does have counselling coverage but does not acknowledge the professional counselling services of a Registered Psychotherapist, it may be possible to have your employer make a change to the insurance plan.
My insurance doesn't cover Psychotherapy services. What now?
You may wish to speak directly with your Human Resources department and ask that they make an amendment to the company extended benefits plan. Most employers like to increase the amount of benefits that their employees can access, especially when it does not cost the employer any additional fee.
What if I have an emergency situation?
In case of an emergency, visit your nearest hospital or call 911. When in need of someone to talk to, then call a distress line. The agencies listed below are operating 24 hours a day (unless otherwise indicated):
